The Decontraction Analysis in London poem by William blake
Poem
is one of the most unique literary works. because there is a lot of meaning in every word. even
unexpected meanings. one of those poems is from william blake. William Blake
has many great poetry works. one of the poems is titled London. published in
Songs of Experience in 1794. As the title suggests poetry tells of London at
that time. how is the city of london. in the poem blake describes the city of
london as a gloomy city.
So
in this paper I will analysis London by William blake use deconstruction
critism. .Deconstruction,
form of philosophical and literary analysis, derived mainly from work begun in
the 1960s by the French philosopher Jacques Derrida,
that questions the fundamental conceptual
distinctions, or “oppositions,” in Western philosophy
through a close examination of the language and logic
of philosophical and literary texts(www.britannica.com)
The
poem of this blake illustrates how the condition of the city of London, in the
poem "London, blake shows how bad the city of London is and looks like a
bleak city, a very sad city.
We
can see on the first stanza, the speakers who are walking down the road, and
near the road there is a charter'd thamnes, this thamnes is a river in London.
he passed people who were marked, it can be seen when the speakers said
And mark in
every face I meet
Marks of
weakness, marks of woe.
He
saw the faces of these people as a sign of weakness and sorrow, it was like
describing how the people who lived there were weak people and people were
miserable or suffering.
On
the second stanza, the speakers, the speaker, looks like everyone is crying,
and the baby cries in fear and he seems to hear every sound of the prohibition
and handcuffs that have been released.
Depiction
of how cruel life in London is also seen. When the speakers say
How the Chimney-sweepers cry
Every blackning Church appalls,
And the hapless Soldiers sigh
Runs in blood down Palace walls
We can see how the speakers describe
the people who live there, the poor soldiers are resigned to the situation and
the word "blood" might refer to the soldiers who lost in the
battlefield.
In the last stanza he said that he
often heard the harlot's young curse and the cry of a newborn baby. The words
"harlot" means a woman who do prostitute. Perhaps the speakers would
like to say how the gloomy conditions of London and many young women who do
prostitute as a result many newborn babies without marriage
Deconstruction
This poem may not be talking about
the ugliness of the city of London at that time, but it might be talking about
how the superiority of London at that time, the word "charter'd"
might mean as a charter, speakers also say about thamnes, in fact thamnes is a
river which is in London and is an important river in London because it is the
center of trade and transportation at that time. and became the main street in
London. The superiority of the city of London is also seen when the writer says
he sees everyone who is tagged. Marked this means people who are respected or
from the upper classes. And the word weakness and woe may mean people who have
power and luck. in the second stanza also explained how cheerful and sad people
are, the word "cry" maybe means joy in everyone.
